Carburizing quenching is a common heat treatment process for metal materials. It can make the surface of carburized workpiece obtain high hardness. The traditional process mainly includes: low temperature tempering, pre cooling direct quenching, primary heating quenching, carburizing high temperature tempering, secondary quenching cold treatment, induction heating after carburizing so on.

Quenching technology is widely used in modern machinery manufacturing industry. Almost all the important mechanical parts, especially the steel parts used in automobiles, airplanes rockets, have been quenched. In order to meet the different technical requirements of various parts, various quenching processes have been developed.

Carburizing: it is a kind of metal surface treatment. The carburizing is mostly made of low carbon steel low alloy steel. The specific method is to put the workpiece into the active carburizing medium heat it to the single-phase austenite area at 900-950 ℃. After holding for enough time, the active carbon atoms decomposed the carburizing medium can penetrate into the surface layer of steel parts, so as to obtain the surface high carbon, The core still retains its original composition, similar to low temperature nitriding. This is a common heat treatment process of metal materials, which can make the surface of carburized workpiece obtain high hardness.

Carburizing is the process of penetrating carbon atoms into the surface layer of steel. It also makes the surface layer of low carbon steel have the surface layer of high carbon steel. After quenching low temperature tempering, the surface layer of the workpiece has high hardness, while the central part of the workpiece still maintains the toughness plasticity of low carbon steel.

The material of carburized workpiece is generally low carbon steel low carbon alloy steel (carbon content is less than 0.25%). After carburizing, the chemical composition on the surface of steel can be close to that of high carbon steel. After carburizing, the workpiece must be quenched to obtain high surface hardness, high fatigue strength, maintain the strength toughness of low carbon steel after quenching in the center, so that the workpiece can withstand impact load. Carburizing process is widely used in aircraft, automobile tractor mechanical parts, such as gears, shafts, camshaft so on.
